Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt has been named this year’s Golden Boy by Tuttosport, coming in ahead of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
There were twenty players on the shortlist which the Italian newspaper put together, and one of those was Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard.
After a good period in October and early November, the 20 year old has found Scottish Premiership goals hard to come by more recently, but at his age there’s always going to be drier periods as he searches for consistency and to improve his level.
Those points were courtesy of The Times’ Matt Dickinson picking him as fifth choice, and Max Kern of Swiss newspaper Blick putting the Celtic player down as third.
It was an achievement to get on the list at all for the youngster, and he’ll never have expected to trouble those at the top of the rankings.
De Ligt joins a list of winners which includes Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Paul Pogba.
