Birmingham City turned to the Swedish market to improve their squad in the winter market.
The Championship side made advances to bring Mjällby AIF’s Abdoulie Manneh to St Andrew’s. He even made a trip to England but failed to complete a move to Birmingham City.
Manneh’s failure to join Birmingham City or another club caused issues for Mjällby. Last week, Sport Witness covered the club’s sporting director Hasse Larsson expressing his frustration over the failed transfer.
Chris Davies’ side quickly changed targets, and signed August Priske from Djurgårdens IF on January 20th. The forward has secured a contract until 2031 at St Andrew’s.
Fotboll Direkt have a report focusing on the ‘high salary’ he’s receiving at Birmingham City. Their title states ‘what a pay rise’ for the new Blues signing.
Birmingham City player with life-changing wages

According to their sources, the 21-year-old will earn SEK 250,000 per week, which comes in at around £20,500.
In other words, he will earn SEK 1m [£80,200] per month and SEK 65m [£5.3m] in total until 2031. The latter is likely to be without performance related bonuses.
The Denmark U21 international spent two years at Djurgårdens IF, and won’t have made anything close to those figures.
Priske starred for the Swedish club last year, scoring 23 goals and contributing three assists from 43 matches. He’s made three appearances for Birmingham City so far.
Djurgårdens IF sporting director Bosse Andersson had wanted to get over €20m [£17.4m], so that Priske became the club’s record signing. That didn’t happen as Davies’ side didn’t even pay half of that to secure Priske’s services.
Last month, Sport Witness covered Danish and Swedish sources stating the fee is around £6.1m, rising to £8.1m with bonuses.
