Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has admitted they are enduring something of a ‘negative trend’ at the club at the minute following a disappointing start to the season.
The striker has been speaking to Aftonbladet regarding Newcastle’s slow start to the season for the Magpies.
The pressure is on them this season after an impressive season last year that had them competing for the Premier League title at one point and eventually securing a top four finish.
They are expected to repeat the trick this season as well as compete in the Champions League, especially after a summer in which they spent €153.2m on players such as Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento.
A 5-1 win over Aston Villa was seen as the best start to the season possible but Newcastle have since lost their last three, enduring a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool and then a 3-1 loss at Brighton last weekend.
The performance against the Seagulls and a late collapse against Liverpool have caused concern and Isak admits they are in something of a downward turn.
“It was almost a bit too good a start. Then we had a negative trend after that. It wasn’t the best feeling to leave with,” he said.
“We have had a small dip and have not reached the levels we know we can reach. We haven’t had an easy schedule in the first four, but we should have been able to take a little more than three points.”
