Pablo Fornals moved to West Ham in the summer in a £20m+ move from Villarreal.

Naturally, big things were expected from the Spaniard and he’s shown flashes which suggest he can grow into a crucial player for the Hammers.

Speaking to Marca for an interview published in their Friday edition, the 24 year old explained how it’s very difficult for new signings to get used to the Premier League early in their first season, with many not managing to be regular players in their initial campaign.

What has been good for Fornals since the start is the support of West Ham’s fans, something he made clear to the Spanish newspaper: “There are very few players who come from Spain and are regulars in their first year. In any case, I am delighted with the affection of the people and I want to continue improving, more if possible.”

Asked if the departure of Manuel Pellegrini, the manager who backed his signing, had changed his life at West Ham, Fornals said: “In the last games with Pellegrini I scored my first goal and gave several assists. Now with Moyes we have changed the system.

“We have returned to what we were doing with Manuel and it is giving us results. Maybe we don’t have the ball so much and we prioritise reaching the area fast and scoring goals. I still play on the left wing and I am delighted to be the protagonist again and I am looking forward to helping my team.”

The West Ham player is likely mainly referring to the recent 3-1 victory over Southampton, a match in which he got two assists, and his goal against Liverpool.

Marca wanted to know how a team with ‘Fornals, Rice, Felipe Anderson, Haller, Noble’ can be fighting relegation, and Fornals said: “Name by name we have a team. Many Premier League or La Liga teams would sign West Ham players. We have had many ups and downs. We started well, among the first five, but then we deflated and now we have to fight to be in the Premier League next year.”
