Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur invested €15m on signing Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central.
The 20-year-old is still adapting to English football, getting his first chances under Ange Postecoglu, and that was commented by a Spurs teammate this weekend.
Infobae today shares some quotes from Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso with ESPN Argentina. He was asked about Veliz there, and said the youngster is settling in well.
“He looks very good. When you arrive in Europe, the adaptation is not easy and even more so in a league like this, the Premier League, with what the training sessions are like,” Lo Celso told ESPN Argentina.
“He listens, he learns, he has already had minutes, he feels more and more comfortable and understands the language, because at the beginning you arrive and you don’t understand anything. There is a beautiful group and dressing room that speaks a lot of Spanish. We’ve got him close, but he’s going to get a lot more minutes and the goals are going to come.”
Regarding all the good treatment from the Spanish speakers that Veliz gets at Tottenham, it seems he could use the help from another Argentine player, which is Cristian Romero. According to Lo Celso, the defender is an important voice in Spurs’ dressing room, despite not having been there for very long.
“They already love him a lot here, he is a reference point within the club, in the dressing room. He is the second captain behind Son, who has been here for many years. I see him doing very well, he’s becoming more and more adapted and a point of reference, transmitting a lot. He transmits a lot in training and in matches. Having him in the team gives us a plus.”
Since his arrival at Tottenham in the summer, Veliz made eight appearances for the club, always getting a few minutes at the end of matches. It should continue like this for the upcoming months, until Postecoglu starts feeling confident that the youngster can finally get his first starts.
