We’re still waiting for Pedro Obiang to be announced as a Sampdoria player, and so is Pedro Obiang, because West Ham appear to have slammed the brakes on the deal.

Criticised for his performance against Ipswich Town in the Hammers’ latest friendly, the Spaniard’s head already appears to be in Italy, even if his body isn’t.

The reason why the deal hasn’t gone through, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, is West Ham’s decision to keep increasing his price, now apparently up to €11m.

Sampdoria thought they had their man on Saturday, with Calciomercato reporting an ‘agreement in principle’ being reached, but the Premier League club have now reportedly backtracked at the last minute, just because they can.

Over in Italy, those negotiating with West Ham are ‘losing patience’, but, for the time being, talks continue as the Serie A side really would like to bring back their former star.

The increase in price could come from interest from other sides, with the Hammers thinking they can play all interested parties against each other, praying for a bidding war.

This is according to Il Secolo XIX, who are waiting for a resolution, like everyone else.
