West Ham United winger Michail Antonio has claimed given the chance he would have been a success for England in this summer’s Euros. England crashed out in the second round of the competition following their 2-1 defeat to Iceland.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Antonio said if he had been selected by England then he believes he would have made a difference to the team this summer. Antonio revealed he turned down the chance to play for Jamaica because he thinks he can go on to represent England, even though Roy Hodgson wasn’t prepared to give him a chance.
“I honestly feel that I would have made a difference in France. I turned down a call-up to Jamaica because I have the ability to play for England, but Roy Hodgson wasn’t willing to take a risk on me,” said the West Ham star.
Antonio joined West Ham last summer from Nottingham Forest, and was one of the standout players for the Hammers last season.
The 26-year-old played 26 Premier League games for the Hammers during the last campaign, and the forward played his part in the club grabbing a Europa League place.
