West Ham United are battling for the signing of Villarreal striker Alexander Sørloth, with the player also enjoying interest from Qatar.
That’s according to Super Deporte, who say West Ham could easily pay the striker’s €38m release clause in their hunt for a forward to add to Julen Lopetegui’s squad this summer.
The newspaper explains that Villarreal are facing a difficult summer as several of their current key players could be departing.
Alexander Sørloth is one of them after an impressive campaign last year that saw him narrowly miss out on the top goal scorer award in La Liga.
He has a ‘multitude’ of clubs interested in him and West Ham are one of those in the mix as they’re keen to add a striker to their squad, with the current group sorely lacking in that area.
The big competition for him is coming from Qatar and Al-Qadsiah who are also trying to convince the striker on a move. The player’s entourage, though, have made it clear that he’s not keen on the idea for the time being.
Roma are also in the mix as they eye Sørloth as a potential replacement for Tammy Abraham should he depart at any point. It seems unlikely they’d be open or capable of paying his release clause, though.
That could be an advantage to West Ham, although there is no indication from Super Deporte that Sørloth is keen on the move or the potential return to England after his short, unsuccessful spell at Crystal Palace earlier in his career.
They do have the offer of Premier League football and the wages that often brings and the ability to pay his release clause as weapons to use, though.
