Each week French newspaper L’Equipe have a look at how national team players are doing around the football world. This week, it’s West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet who finds himself in the red zone, the space reserved for the player who hasn’t really done too well and isn’t advancing his national team claims.
West Ham lost 2-0 to Everton on Sunday, which obviously won’t have helped Payet’s case. After the match Slaven Bilic said he thought his West Ham side could have got something out of the game, but it’s hard to put up a convincing argument for that.
On Payet, L’Equipe say the West Ham and France star forget his best game, ‘missed most of his dribbles’, and couldn’t really get anything going for the London team.
It’s not all bad for Payet, and L’Equipe are fair in pointing out that the star has created more chances at West Ham this season than any other player in the Premier League.
The top French performer picked out by L’Equipe is Olivier Giroud, who came on for Arsenal and scored two goals with his first two touches, not a bad afternoon.
