Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United are two of the clubs in the race for PSV midfielder Joey Veerman, according to claims from the Netherlands.
The information comes from journalist Rik Elfrink, whose quotes on the DoneDeal Podcast are relayed by SoccerNews.
He claims that Brighton and West Ham both lead the race to get the 25-year-old signed.
Veerman reportedly just turned down a contract renewal offer from PSV, as he’s said to be keen on leaving the Eredivisie side soon.
According to Elfrink, the Dutch side’s idea is to hold the player for longer so they can make more money when selling him.
“If he doesn’t extend, he will end up in a slightly different range. Then I think you should rate him between €20m and €25m. If he extends, PSV will be able to ask for more than €30m. That is a bridge too far for many clubs and it may become a bit more difficult to make a transfer.”
Regarding the interest from Brighton and West Ham, Elfrink said they stand as favourites.
“He also stands out more and more because of his defensive statistics. That also makes him interesting for a number of English clubs. I understand that clubs like West Ham United and Brighton are in the front row for him. He can also become interesting for those clubs.”
It was in 2022 that PSV spent €6m to sign Veerman from Heerenveen. Since then, the player has 20 goals and 33 assists in 101 appearances for the club, despite being a central midfielder, and that’s one of the reasons why his market value is only going up.
Now it seems this contract situation will dictate when PSV will sell him.
