West Ham United target Achraf Lazaar has told the French media he will only leave Palermo for a club at a higher level. The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the Hammers following claims this week the Premier League side are in pole position for the defender.
Speaking to Foot Mercarto, Lazaar was asked about his future, and also the interest from Marseille. The full back revealed he knew the Ligue 1 side had been linked with him, but he said he’d only move to a club at a higher level than Palermo.
“It is true that OM are interested. It would be interesting but if I have to leave Palermo, it will be a decision which allows me to move to a higher level, to the next level. Palermo is a great club, a great team,” said the Serie A defender
This week we covered reports West Ham are still keen to sign Lazaar even though Marseille and Sporting Lisbon have been taking an interest in the player.
Lazaar has just 12 months left on his contract with Palermo, and subsequently the Sicilian side want to sell him in this transfer window to get a decent transfer fee for him.
However, with Arthur Masuaku being announced as a new West Ham player, a move for Lazaar may longer be a priority for the East London side.
