After what feels like decades, even it’s only been three months or so, of transfer rumours, a decision has been made by Edin Dzeko regarding his future: he won’t be going to West Ham.

Gazzetta dello Sport are the ones bringing us the news on Thursday on their website, a day or so after it was explained he would use Saturday’s game against Inter to find out more about their interest in his services.

The Italian outlet explain the reason behind this decision is the Bosnia international’s desire to remain in Italy, regardless of whether AS Roma extend his contract or not.

Corriere dello Sport, a few days ago, claimed the 33-year-old was still ‘hoping’ to get a new deal from his current club, which is why no answer had been given to West Ham, who, despite making him a verbal contract offer, had yet to make an official bid for his services.

As recently as Thursday morning, Calciomercato were emphasising how much the Hammers wanted Dzeko, trying to get everything sorted ‘as soon as possible’, but it appears that won’t be the case.

After all the speculation, this is a rather bold step from Gazzetta dello Sport as it could mean the end of what was already one of the stories of the summer in Italy.

We doubt they will have gone all out like this without a reason, and perhaps Edin Dzeko has truly found the country he wants to end his career in.

And it isn’t England.
