SK Rapid Psáry have confirmed the arrival of West Ham United‘s Tomáš Souček for a new role.
Rapid Psáry are a fourth division Czech club, playing in Divize B, where they finished eighth last season.
The club have released a statement on their official website confirming the appointment of the West Ham man as their new technical director.
Souček happy with agreement
In this role, he will take part in the ‘preparation and implementation of strategic projects focused on the development of the club’s infrastructure, modernisation of facilities and long-term development of SK Rapid Psáry’.
The 31-year-old will also work with other technical leaders of the club. He initially has to work from England while he has a contract until West Ham United.
On the agreement, he said: “I am happy to be part of the Rapid Psáry project. The club have a clear vision and a great desire to move forward.
“I look forward to working with the people in the club and all the challenges that await us. I believe that together we’ll create an environment that’ll help the development of the players and the entire club.”
Months to convince West Ham man
SK Rapid Psáry sporting director Jiří Sodoma explains how he convinced Tomáš Souček to accept this role.
It’s worth noting the midfielder didn’t represent the Czech club in the past.
“We are happy that we managed to secure his arrival, because we had been talking about something like this since the winter. Negotiations took place for half a year,” Sodoma explained.
“I am very happy that Tomáš is with us. We have known each other since childhood, he is a person I can trust, he has rich experience from the Premier League and the national team, and he can pass on a lot to us.”
Souček’s West Ham future
Tomáš Souček is in his final year of contract and his future remains uncertain. He spent 15 years with Slavia Prague between 2005 and 2020, and the first nine years were with their academy.
Two months ago, Slavia manager Jindřich Trpišovský opened the door for him to return to the club.
He represented the Czech Republic at the World Cup. Before the tournament started, the 31-year-old refused to talk about his future plans.
It’s unclear whether he’ll play in the Championship or look for another club this summer.
