West Ham United star Edson Álvarez is set to fly to Amsterdam on Sunday for a specially planned goodbye to former club Ajax.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, who say the midfielder will be put ‘in the spotlight’.
The newspaper explains that Álvarez will say goodbye to his former club on Sunday in the Johan Cruijff Arena before the Dutch side take on NEC.
Álvarez left Ajax for West Ham in the summer in a €38m deal, bringing an end to a four year stay in Amsterdam that saw him win two titles and plenty of fans at the club.
The plan is now to honour that period with a proper goodbye in front of the fans, a traditional thing done by most clubs in the Netherlands when a player departs the club.
Álvarez is first set to be a part of West Ham’s squad for the clash against Nottingham Forest on Saturday before then travelling to Amsterdam for the event ahead of the clash with NEC.
What the event will involve beyond him being presented in front of the fans isn’t made clear, but it seems the plan is in place and Álvarez will be in Amsterdam on Sunday for a brief return to his former club.
