New York City FC’s Valentín Castellanos spent last season on loan at Girona, where he managed 14 goals and one assist from 37 games. His form has caught the attention of West Ham United and Sevilla.

That’s according to journalist César Luis Merlo, who took to Twitter at the weekend to state the Hammers and Sevilla have ‘already shown concrete interest’ in the striker. He also said the MLS side want €15m to let go of him.

Merlo’s claim about West Ham is backed up by Monday’s Mundo Deportivo, who then add Benfica are also showing interest in the 24-year-old.

His ‘remarkable season’ at Girona has seen several European sides take notice, including West Ham. Mundo state David Moyes’ side came forward and ‘tried to win’ the battle to acquire his signing.

As things stand, Benfica are ahead of West Ham and other clubs. In fact, the report states they are expected to be his next destination and the player has already given his approval to the transfer. The Eagles have decided to pay his €15m clause.

Mundo say the Argentine’s move to Benfica should be closed in the next few days, if there are no last-minute surprises.

Unless West Ham make a last-ditch attempt to convince Castellanos to join them, he could be on his way to Benfica.
