West Ham United have ‘gathered information’ on Lille forward Jonathan David and are ‘seriously interested’ in a move for him this summer.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports that West Ham, Chelsea and Manchester United all have him on their shortlists.
He reports that of the three, Chelsea and West Ham are seriously interested in David this summer, with the Blues asking about him in recent days.
West Ham have also gathered information about the forward as they look to add more firepower to Julen Lopetegui’s forward line this summer.
Manchester United only have him on their shortlist at this moment in time but a move to the Premier League is the most likely outcome for the 24-year-old.
David is on the verge of leaving Lille as he only has one year left on his contract and is valued at €20-25m, a relatively low figure given he’s managed 84 goals and 18 assists in 183 games for Lille and had 37 and 15 in 83 games for KAA Gent before that.
West Ham could certainly afford such a figure and have regularly shown a willingness to spend big on forwards in recent years, spending €50m on Sebastien Haller, €28.6m on Gianluca Scamacca and even €23m to sign Luis Guilherme already this summer.
Whether they now advance for David remains to be seen but they’re very much in the mix alongside Chelsea, with Manchester United also hovering in the background.
