West Ham United will be among several clubs to have a scout in the attendance at the Luminus Arena on Sunday, as KRC Genk take on Club Brugge.
That’s according to Het Belang van Limburg, who state the Hammers will put David Moyes Jnr, son of their manager, on a plane to Belgium to watch the two Jupiler Pro League sides in action.
As well as West Ham, PSV Eindhoven football affairs manager Jan Vennegoor will be in attendance, and Ajax will be represented by their chief scout.
It’s said the Premier League side and the two Dutch clubs must have a ‘strong interest’ in certain Genk or Club Brugge players.
HBVL had a chat with Schalke scout Jan-Pieter Martens and he is of the belief the majority of the scouts will have their eyes set on Genk midfielder Bilal El Khannous. The Morocco international made one appearance for his country at the World Cup.
“If a club sends someone who is higher in rank than a normal regional scout, it usually happens because all the filters show that there is a good and perhaps feasible player somewhere,” Martens said.
“To be clear, in Sunday’s top match, few players are realistic for us, but who knows, El Khannous has been sleeping in Schalke pyjamas all his life. Just say that nothing is impossible. So of course, we also follow such players.”
With West Ham set to send their official to Belgium, HBVL do not provide information on which players they could watch on Sunday.
