Following the surprising claims from last night which said Flamengo are in talks with West Ham United for the transfer of Lucas Paquetá, the Brazilian media now shares some updates on the situation.
Globo Esporte has a fresh story saying the Hammers will only accept negotiating the player on a permanent deal.
It’s said West Ham won’t even sit at the table to discuss a loan. They know Paquetá risks a major ban following the betting allegations, and the ‘only alternative’ they have is to recover part of the investment made on him with a sale.
Globo Esporte claim Flamengo have been in talks for this transfer for around a month, and it’s been at least three weeks since they learned that a temporary spell is ruled out by the Hammers.
There’s obviously some concern that Paquetá’s ban would be worldwide, forbidding him to play in his home country as well, but there are people who believe otherwise.
Flamengo have reportedly been in touch with lawyers who understand that some appeals may delay the ban and they could even try to keep the verdict only for English football. The club would be ready to appeal in all legal spheres, including to the FA, the Court of Arbitration for Sport and FIFA.
That sounds wildly optimistic, especially considering Sandro Tonali’s ban was quite easily extended worldwide.
The story claims that Paquetá himself approved the talks, and will only negotiate with the Rio de Janeiro side once there’s a deal between the clubs.
