West Ham United remain attentive of Guido Rodríguez’s situation, as fresh reports from Spain show that this story is yet to be resolved, despite confident headlines elsewhere.
While several outlets and journalists have confirmed Rodríguez’s exit, Spanish sources are far more careful. On Tuesday afternoon, AS reported that Valencia CF are in talks with West Ham for the 31-year-old. However, they stress that negotiations are not near a conclusion. Discussions are moving, but key points remain unresolved.
Rodríguez is due to become a free agent in June, but West Ham hold an option to extend his contract until June 2027. That means any loan move would require the extension to be activated first.
West Ham are reluctant to do that. Instead, they prefer a permanent transfer and want a fixed fee. Letting the player leave for free is not being considered.
Valencia’s position
Valencia see the situation differently. They believe Rodríguez’s age and contract timeline should reduce his price. The Spanish club do not want to overpay for a 31-year-old nearing the end of his deal.
As a result, they are already looking at other midfield options if West Ham refuse to lower their demands. Still, reports say Rodríguez likes the idea of returning to La Liga and would accept a multi-year contract.
Brazilian angle stays firm
Meanwhile in Brazil, the story takes another turn. A Grêmio insider outlet said the following: “Valencia is in the same situation as us but it’s the opposite: Grêmio reached a total agreement with the West and Valencia reached an agreement with Guido Rodriguez’s staff”. They mentioned Spanish outlet Radio Marca as source.
Their reports also state that West Ham will not accept a loan without a purchase option. The English club are said to be holding firm on a €3m valuation, a figure Grêmio are believed to have offered.
All signs point to an open race. West Ham still control the process through the contract option. Valencia are moving carefully and weighing alternatives. Grêmio believe they are ahead and remain confident.
For now, despite strong claims from different sides, Guido Rodríguez’s next move is still very much undecided.
