Back in the summer, Benfica striker Darwin Nunez had already been a man to be watched in the transfer market, as a few clubs were reportedly interested in his signing. Now with his goals scored this season, including two against Barcelona and one versus Bayern Munich, the race for his transfer is only growing.

There are several sides whose interest has showed up in the past few months. As today reported by newspaper Record, that list includes the likes of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Milan, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Now we get to see another Premier League club being added to that competition, and that’s West Ham United, even though the claims sound a bit confusing.

Record names the Hammers as one of the clubs who’ve been ‘linked with insistence’ to the 22-year-old striker. The London side are put along with other English clubs who’ve been indeed named in this race for a few months.

But it turns out that West Ham haven’t really been a feature past stories. So Record now look to be pulling them into the battle.

Darwin Nunez is expected to be a very expensive player in 2022. It’s stated Benfica are only letting him go in January in case someone triggers his release clause, which stands at €150m. And in case of a summer sale, they expect him to break the club’s record, which belongs to João Félix’s €120m move to Atletico Madrid.

Even though it sounds unlikely the Eagles will make that much money with the Uruguayan, it still shows that they’ll be serious in getting as much as possible for him, and that big competition will certainly help them to achieve that.
