All of a sudden, West Ham United are now linked to Leon Goretzka.
The sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal means the Hammers have a big chunk of money to spend on a new midfielder, and very interesting targets are starting to show up in the rumour mill.
West Ham’s interest in Goretzka is reported by Sky Deustschland today, with journalist Florian Plettenberg revealing the chase.
“Leon Goretzka is definitely a candidate whose situation is being watched very closely by the English, because they didn’t miss the fact that Goretzka was allowed to leave Bayern.”
The outlet points out that Goretzka’s future at Bayern Munich is ‘still uncertain’, and that situation raises the interest from Premier League clubs.
Plettenberg also commented on how much it’d take to sign Goretzka from Bayern Munich, and that definitely sounds like something West Ham could afford in this specific transfer window.
“Bayern is currently considering a fee of €40m to €50m. Tuchel would definitely let him go because Tuchel wants to create space in the squad. Tuchel would like to sign a player who, in his perception, has the profile of Declan Rice.”
West Ham are not the only club trying to take Goretzka to the Premier League, as Manchester United are said to be interested in him as well.
Sky’s story claims the Hammers are ‘preparing an offer’ for the player, who was recently publicly criticised by Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel.
Now it remains to be seen whether the Hammers will meet the request. Perhaps more crucially, they’d need to know whether the player would be interested.
