Out of all the issues we have with the reporting of transfer news around Europe, there’s one in particular that really grinds our gears: the lack of consistency.
We know we live in a day and age where so much information is thrown at us that it’s hard to remember everything, and that’s exactly why we keep everything we write archived so we can be those guys and point out discrepancies.
A perfect example of this comes from Gazzetta dello Sport and their story about West Ham’s interest in Lazio’s Felipe Anderson.
A couple of days ago, the Italian newspaper reported an alleged €38m bid from the Hammers for the Brazilian forward, emphasising that the Italian side would no accept anything below €50m for their star.
Fast forward to Wednesday, and their tune has changed considerably, claiming Felipe Anderson’s exit from Rome is getting ‘closer’, with West Ham ‘prepared to spend €30m’ to bring him to London Stadium.
It’s worth pointing out the articles were written by different journalists, which could lead to different information, but if one has a story, why not let him do the reporting on it all the way through rather than let someone else come in and make you sound like you’re just guessing at what could happen?
One thing is consistent, however, and that’s West Ham’s alleged interest in the Lazio winger.
As for the price, expect that to change about 34 times in the next month.
