West Ham’s pursuit of Alaves’ Guillermo Maripan is far from over if La Cuarta in Chile are to be believed.
According to the South American newspaper, the centre-back is one of the Manuel Pellegrini’s ‘main objectives’ this summer for the Hammers, who are currently ‘studying’ the possibility of making a ‘mega bid’ for 25-year-old.
La Cuarta report West Ham are looking to offer $17m (£13.4m) for the defender, having recently wrapped up talks with Alaves for Lucas Perez.
The 30-year-old forward’s return to Spain was announced by the La Liga club on Monday evening, a deal sorted out far quicker than the one for Maripan.
The Chilean outlet explain talks between the two sides have ‘multiplied’ over the past few months, but Alaves are refusing to budge from their stance of ‘release clause or nothing’, meaning €25m.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of this, but La Cuarta are strongly suggesting West Ham aren’t done and will come back with another bid for Maripan.
