West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers were keen on signing Ajax’s Kenneth Taylor last summer.

That’s according to ESPN NL, who explain why West Ham and Wolves failed to sign the 23-year-old.

Ajax have struggled this season, winning four of their nine league matches and are fourth in the table. They also lost all three Champions League fixtures, conceding 11 goals.

ESPN NL cover the Dutch club’s decline this season and point out early dissatisfaction within the squad as one of the reasons. This is when they also focus on West Ham, Wolves and FC Porto’s interest in Taylor.

It’s claimed the decline was noticeable to players, and this saw Taylor push for a transfer towards the end of the window.

According to the report, the Eredivisie side had promised in 2024 they would let him leave last summer. The midfielder then confronted Ajax technical director Alex Kroes about this agreement.

Despite West Ham and Porto interest, Ajax didn’t cooperate. Instead, they demanded a higher fee than expected. There’s no mention of figures, but Taylor and his entourage considered the request to be ‘unreasonable’.

Wolves, on the other hand, showed willingness to pay a high fee to sign him. However, the player wasn’t keen on moving to Molineux.

Behind the scenes, an assistant coach questioned his motivation in training, resulting in a conflict between the pair. Although Taylor played 12 matches this season, his form seems to have dropped when compared to last season.

Ajax’s decision to request a higher fee for Taylor may not have worked out well.
