It’s strange how stories change in the space of a month.
Normally, this is due to Chinese whispers, with one outlet embellishing or misinterpreting something, which then gets twisted and so on…
However, when it’s the same source, it’s just a bit bizarre.
A perfect example of this appeared on Thursday when Tuttosport published an article on their website regarding Torino striker Andrea Belotti, who has had a great start to the season.
The 22-year-old has so far scored five goals in seven appearances for Joe Hart’s new team, on top of getting two assists, and even netted his first goal for Italy during the last international break.
About a month ago, Tuttosport reported that both West Ham and Leicester City had enquired about the young goalscorer over the summer, which made sense considering the clubs were looking for a new striker.
However, on Thursday, the Italian newspaper now claim that West Ham, before moving onto Simone Zaza, made a €30m offer for Belotti, which was rejected by Urbano Cairo, the club’s chairman.
Now, either Tuttosport have picked up new information over the past month or they felt the ‘enquired’ line wasn’t glamorous enough and needed to be upped.
Either way, West Ham never got the striker, and Torino are gleefully reaping the benefits of his talents this season.
