West Ham’s efforts to sign a striker in the January transfer window were covered around the European media. Having let Sebastien Haller sign for Ajax, the Hammers were expected to quickly bring a replacement in, yet failed to get the man they wanted.

David Moyes’ side haven’t exactly struggled since and despite their defeat to Manchester United at the weekend, fighting for a European place for next season doesn’t seem out of the question.

Had West Ham managed to secure their main target, Youssef En-Nesyri, there’s a reasonable chance they’d be doing even better. Sevilla have confirmed multiple times that the English club tried to sign the striker, but the offer wasn’t high enough and the player himself wasn’t keen on such a move in the winter market.

Since then, he’s continued his good goalscoring form.

The 23-year-old has 20 goals so far this season, and continues to be an important part of Sevilla’s side.

Fichajes report that after the West Ham attempts, En-Nesyri is now wanted by ‘half the Premier League’. It’s claimed there’s big interest from English clubs, and the striker can now look forward to perhaps a bigger transfer.

For Sevilla, it presents a chance for a big profit at a time when finances have been hit by the Covid-19 crisis. For West Ham, this could be one that got away, despite them getting in there first.
