West Ham United have made an initial approach to Atalanta to gather information about Nicola Zalewski, as reported in Italy by Gianluca Di Marzio

With the London club currently sitting 18th in the Premier League, the hierarchy is actively exploring options to strengthen the squad during the window, and the Polish midfielder has emerged as a name under consideration.

According to the report, West Ham contacted Atalanta to understand the conditions of a potential deal. However, the Italian side is in no rush to negotiate. Any move would require a significant offer, given both the player’s recent performances and the investment Atalanta made to secure him last summer.

The 24-year-old joined Atalanta from Inter ahead of the current season. Developed through Roma’s academy, he has operated mainly as a wide player or attacking midfielder. So far, he has featured in 18 Serie A matches, contributing one goal and three assists. His versatility and ability to play across attacking roles are part of what has drawn attention from abroad.

West Ham still to make proposal

Atalanta have not received a formal proposal yet. Internally, the club value the player highly and see little reason to weaken their squad mid-season unless the financial terms are convincing. That stance makes clear that West Ham would need to move beyond exploratory talks to test Atalanta’s resolve.

For West Ham, led by Nuno Espírito Santo, the coming weeks remain crucial. The club are assessing several profiles as they look to add quality and depth. So Zalewski’s situation is one to monitor.
