West Ham United are ‘looking to sign’ Barcelona and Spain icon Jordi Alba in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Fichajes, who say the defender has his ‘days numbered’ at the Camp Nou, with Barcelona keen to solve his situation before January.

His current contract at the club expires in 2024 and while Alba has stated he doesn’t want to leave, Joan Laporta and Mateu Alemany are ‘looking for a way out’ as he does not fit in Xavi’s plans.

His high salary is another problem, so much so that Barcelona are ‘listening to offers’ for him and it’s claimed West Ham have begun to show interest.

They’re struggling this season and want to continue improving their defence with signings, particularly competition for Aaron Cresswell at left-back.

They see Alba as an experienced player who can offer a ‘substantial improvement’ in every phase of their game and are now considering whether to make an offer in the winter, either on loan or permanently.

Whether Alba would be interested in the move to West Ham isn’t mentioned.
