Following the injury to Kurt Zouma, West Ham United are a bit thin at the back these days, having already lost Angelo Ogbonna for the season.
That’s why, as well as a striker, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Hammers delve into the centre-back market, and where better to do that than in Serie A?
Calciomercato.it take that very seriously on Wednesday, and put forward three names, all who have been linked with West Ham at some point in the past.
The first is Nikola Milenkovic, who already came extremely close to moving to London Stadium in the summer, only to end up renewing at Fiorentina when the transfer ultimately collapsed.
He, according to the website, would be around €15m, making him ‘slightly more affordable’ than Torino’s Gleison Bremer, valued at €18m around 18 months from the end of his contract.
The final one is Daniele Rugani, currently twiddling his thumbs at Juventus, having totalled just 98 minutes of football so far this season.
For the Italian, they state that he could ‘tickle the palate’ of West Ham, and would ‘go ahead with the loan formula’.
In an emergency situation like this, the Hammers will have to weigh up the pros and cons of each deal, as they could easily buy someone and ensure the long-term depth of the squad at centre-back, or simply bring in a quick loan to plug the gap, only to focus on a more permanent solution in the summer.
We’ll have to wait and see what David Moyes and co. decide to do, but clubs will know they need a player, and quickly.
