Looking back at the Sport Witness archives, it appears that West Ham United have held an interest in Davide Frattesi since at least April of this year.
The Hammers did indeed do some shopping at Sassuolo in the summer, but the man they got was Gianluca Scamacca, leaving his teammate alone for the time being.
That being said, the rumours of West Ham’s interest returned soon after the summer transfer window closed, with it claimed the London side could try an encore by targeting Frattesi after securing the services of their Italian striker.
Well, those stories continue on Wednesday, as Calciomercato look at AS Roma wanting to sign their former player, which they came close to doing in the summer.
It didn’t materialise, however, and while they are still keen, the website explain that ‘in the meantime, some Premier League teams have joined, including West Ham, where his friend Scamacca plays’.
There’s no denying that the striker, who is now finding form under David Moyes, could be a big plus for the Hammers in a potential deal.
What could also work in West Ham’s favour is the fact that AS Roma would get to keep 30% of whatever fee they end up paying Sassuolo thanks to a clause they inserted when they let him go there in the first place, meaning a sale to anybody else would lead to more money in the pockets of the Neroverdi.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of all this, but it seems Moyes and co. are keeping tabs on all of this, perhaps with a view to making a move in January?
