West Ham United are ready to open their door for AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini this summer.
Three days ago, Corriere dello Sport reported the Hammers are pushing hard to sign him.
On Friday, Calciomercato reported Tottenham Hotspur are in the picture, but West Ham remain the hottest option.
The attacking midfielder’s contract expires next summer, and Roma haven’t opened talks for renewal. His desire is to continue, but the Serie A club are keen on offloading him, to avoid losing him for free in 2026.
Roma sporting director Frederic Massara has confirmed this during an interview with Sky Italia on Saturday. The official has indicated the need to find a solution before the window closes.
“As soon as I arrived, I informed Pellegrini that we would not be renewing his contract; it’s a decision we shared. For this reason, in order not to lose the player for free and because of Lorenzo’s wishes, we are seeing if there are opportunities for him,” he said.
“There are still eight days left, and then the January transfer window: if the conditions are right for both parties, we will evaluate them and potentially pursue them.”
Massara’s comments should come as an encouragement for West Ham to secure the 29-year-old’s services.
Sunday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport relays his comments and then provide their own updates on West Ham. It’s claimed there are ‘concrete’ developments with regards to the Italy international’s exit.
Graham Potter’s side have shown considerable interest in Pellegrini and have stepped up their efforts to try and secure his services.
It’s claimed West Ham are ‘intensifying their relationship with the player’s entourage’, likely to find an agreement. Roma, on the other hand, are asking €10m to sell him.
Pellegrini’s exit will help Roma collect a fee and also save on his salary, which can be then utilised to sign another player.
