Marseille are keen on signing West Ham United’s Emerson Palmieri this summer.
The Ligue 1 club are working on improving their left-back position and have the 31-year-old and Liverpool’s Konstantinos Tsimikas as two options.
That’s according to L’Equipe, and they report Marseille are in pole position to sign the West Ham player.
Emerson was a regular for the Hammers, playing 32 games last season, but hasn’t featured so far this season.
The London club have signed El Hadji Malick Diouf and Graham Potter has him, the former Chelsea man and Oliver Scarles as three left-backs at his disposal.
Emerson is in his final year of contract, with the Premier League club having an option for another year. L’Equipe say he’s not part of Potter’s plans and is ‘expected to be released’ by West Ham.
In other words, the fullback is expected to terminate his contract and join the French club on a free transfer.
The newspaper claims Marseille are in the process of finalising his arrival. The Brazil-born Italy international is set to sign a two-year contract with Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Emerson was on loan at Lyon during the 2021/22 season, and his knowledge of Ligue 1 and experience can be a ‘plus’ for Marseille.
