West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca is expected to sign for Atalanta between ‘today and tomorrow’, according to Calcio Mercato.
The outlet writes that the player already had his medical with the Serie A side, and should soon see his transfer made official.
Atalanta reportedly made a ‘decisive leap’ to overcome Inter Milan in the race for Scamacca. They found a deal with West Ham to pay €25m plus €5m in ‘easy’ bonuses.
Calcio Mercato explain that the add-ons were ‘key’ for Atalanta to win the race, because even though Inter Milan had offered the same figures, their bonuses were ‘more complicated ‘to achieve.
Inter Milan didn’t want to raise their bid further, and that’s why West Ham ended up reaching a full agreement with the Bergamo side.
Scamacca is expected to make €3m per season – likely after tax – at Atalanta, and that’s a record salary at the club.
The striker joined West Ham last summer following a €36m deal with Sassuolo. In his only season at the club, he had eight goals in 27 appearances, and now returns to try his luck in his home country.
