Did you know that West Ham were desperate for a striker? No? Because everybody else certainly does.
Following the sale of Sébastien Haller, the Hammers have been going around Europe trying to find a team willing to sell a good goalscorer.
As you can imagine, doing so midseason in a campaign made financially awkward by an ongoing pandemic hasn’t been easy, and David Moyes is getting somewhat antsy.
With just Michail Antonio at his disposal, the West Ham manager would like someone in, and at this point, he’d just like anyone.
Many big names have been tried, such as AS Roma’s Edin Dzeko, but either the team or the player himself have turned them down.
La Repubblica on Friday encapsulate the whole thing nicely, explaining that while the Bosnian is hoping he can get a move to Inter that would involve swapping him for Alexis Sánchez, ‘there is always West Ham at the window, desperately looking for a striker’.
Unfortunately, as has been mentioned before, the former Manchester City ‘doesn’t like’ that option, wanting a team that guarantees him growth, and perhaps some titles, but should the move to the San Siro fall through, ‘the prospect of standing by between now and June could also upset his priorities’.
That means that there’s still a slither of hope, with the newspaper hinting Dzeko might prefer starting regularly at West Ham over being cast aside by Paulo Fonseca in Rome.
Is it worth the wait? Probably not, but it’s something those in charge at London Stadium will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on.
