Looking at defensive midfielders last summer, West Brom, after a lot of faffing around, eventually brought in Grzegorz Krychowiak from Paris Saint-Germain on loan.
Once widely lauded at Sevilla, the Poland international struggled in France, and never made a space for himself in Unai Emery’s side, eventually landing at the Hawthorns.
However, it seems unlikely the Baggies will make the move permanent come the summer, so a new defensive midfielder will be needed, and they’ve already got a target in mind.
According to La Provence in France, West Brom would ideally like to sign André Zambo Anguissa, currently playing for Marseille, and have already tried to do so.
The local newspaper explain Alan Pardew’s side put forward €15m last June to try and convince the Ligue 1 side, to no avail.
The 22-year-old ignored it, signed a new contract until 2021 and has since become a vital part of Rudi Garcia’s side, a progress the Baggies are said to still be closely monitoring.
If Marseille said no to that amount last year, they’ll certainly do so again come the summer, and if West Brom really want Zambo Anguissa, they’re going to have to come up with more money.
A lot more money, if La Provence are to be believed.
