Last week West Brom were credited in Spain with an interest in signing Felipe Caicedo from Espanyol on a permanent deal. This was wonderful news for Barcelona’s 2nd club because it was a way to get Caicedo completely off their books.

Espanyol have been keen to part ways with the former Manchester City player for a while, because the wages he’s on don’t match the output the club gets. Signed on a free transfer in 2014, Caicedo was put on inflated wages and now that’s a problem for the club.

Villarreal were interested in a loan but there was disagreement over terms, and that didn’t get over the line. This all meant that Espanyol had to forget about their plans of bringing club hero Sergio Garcia back from Al-Rayyan.

West Brom being brought into the scenario was probably something from the Spanish end of a possible deal, trying to convince Tony Pulis that here was a player to suit him.

It didn’t work and West Brom didn’t follow through with their idea, or the idea presented to them, and Espanyol ended up keeping a player they don’t really want.
