‘West Brom evaluate Samaris.
West Bromwich, ranked 17th in the Premier League, watched midfielder Andreas Samaris on Monday at Luz and consider advancing with an offer to Benfica for the transfer, several English media said yesterday.’
That’s what Portuguese newspaper A Bola writes today, telling Benfica fans that West Brom could be buying the Greek midfielder Andreas Samaris soon.
Well, the Baggies did indeed send scouts to watch Benfica’s Champions League clash against Basel on Tuesday, as reported by the very same A Bola yesterday.
But then opinion has been turned into something more.
What happened was that as usual, Sport Witness had a story pointing out all the Benfica players who West Brom were recently linked with, showing that some of them could have been the target for the scouting mission.
Samaris gor a special mention after a failed move in the summer.
Some other English outlets covered the story as well, including a word here and there, and that was enough for A Bola to believe it was a new report. This is not the first time it happens.
Samaris has been having little game time at Benfica, and considering that he was reportedly close to joining West Brom in the summer, that’s a deal we could see happening in the future.
But there have been no real reports of a recent approach, so we better wait until something more concrete shows up in the Portuguese press.
