West Brom’s interest in Dennis Aogo was reported by The Daily Mail this week and the club should have no problems signing the player should they wish. Aogo’s contract with Schalke expires in the summer and both player and club are happy to part company.

There was a clause in the deal which would have automatically extended the contract by a further season, but that was removed by mutual agreement before Christmas. According to the claims, Tony Pulis sent scouts to watch Aogo earlier this month and the reports were positive, with West Brom impressed the 30 year old can operate in midfield as well as at left-back.

However, Aogo has only played 13 minutes of football this month, coming on as a substitute against Augsburg, and managing to pick up a yellow card during his cameo. Aogo has only featured in one match in each of December, January, February and March, and has managed just 182 minutes of Bundesliga football so far this season.

The scouts sent by West Brom must be easily pleased.

The playing time is not exactly a ringing endorsement, and Pulis would have to dig a little deeper before even considering a free transfer.
