Brest defender Brendan Chardonnet has joked they are chasing down Liverpool in the Champions League following their latest win in the competition.
Foot Mercato cover comments from the 29-year-old today after Brest continued their fine form in the Champions League this week.
The French side were 2-1 winners away to Sparta Praha, with a goal from Edimilson Fernandes and an own goal from Kaan Kairinen seeing them secure three points.
It was their third win in four games in the competition this season, with a draw against German champions Bayer Leverkusen meaning they currently sit on 10 points.
That tally has them sitting fourth in the table at present, joint second on points with Sporting Club de Portugal, Monaco and Inter Milan and just two points behind leaders Liverpool on 12 points.
It’s been a stunning and unforeseen start to the competition for the French side, especially given they are 11th in Ligue 1 at this moment in time.
Few would have seen this coming, but it seems Chardonnet isn’t done yet and instead setting his, and Brest’s sights on league leaders Liverpool.
“Every match, they expect us and every match, we are there,” he said.
“We still hope to be there for the next matches. We deserve to be in this competition, and we want to believe in it until the end.
“We give everything, we don’t cheat, we are 100%. It’s really cool to play in this competition and to have these results. Are we behind Liverpool? Oh, too bad! We’re going to catch them!”
