Stefan De Vrij hasn’t got off the bench in Serie A since October. In the Champions League it’s a little more recent, with 90 minutes against Kairat Almaty on Bonfire Night.

Last season the Dutchman was more of a regular, even if that status did wobble a little towards the end of the campaign. New manager Cristian Chivu doesn’t appear to be the defender’s biggest fan, and with a contract expiring in June the exit route appears illuminated.

Nottingham Forest have been credited with interest in the UK. That has been mentioned in Italy but hasn’t really got going yet. Sean Dyche’s side and others will be further linked as the days go by, given the player’s situation.

Shortly after the Nottingham Forest links, De Vrij’s agent has spoken to the Italian media. The 33-year-old is represented by Federico Pastorello, one of the best known agents in Italy.

He has two clients with Inter Milan contracts expiring in June, and they’re both centre backs. The other is 37-year-old Francesco Acerbi, with the veteran fairing a bit better under Chivu.

Pastorello is well aware it’s his job to go out and find options for the duo. He’s suggested as such in an interview today.

Whilst he didn’t mention Nottingham Forest directly, he did hint a transfer is being worked on.

Agent would surely take Nottingham Forest’s call

TMW quote the agent as saying: “The club has been very clear with us. They’ll make a decision at the end of the season. Obviously, some players will be free to negotiate a renewal, while others may have already signed with someone else in the meantime.

“However, I don’t see any decisions being made on the horizon. Inter will have their hands full; they have five or six players whose contracts are expiring and they’re all players who have made the club’s recent history. We’re relaxed; we know the club will resume these discussions in May or June.

“We’re doing our job, which is to bring as many options as possible to the players. That said, the players are very attached to Inter. De Vrij is in his eighth season, and Acerbi has also written some very important pages in the Nerazzurri’s recent history. They’re getting along very well, and I’m not ruling anything out, but we’ll talk about it in due time.”

Inter Milan renewing contracts for the pair is unlikely.

Should Nottingham Forest interest be genuine then Pastorello will happily take their call.
