Last week, the Brazilian media revealed that Tottenham Hotspur held a meeting for the signing of Athletico Paranaense wonderkid Vitor Roque.
The youngster’s entourage visited several clubs in Europe, and Spurs were one of those who received them to have a chat about the 18-year-old’s future.
Vitor Roque has been surrounded by transfer rumours, especially because of Barcelona’s interest, and now interviewed by Globo Esporte, Athletico director Alexandre Mattos showed to be uncomfortable about that.
The club chief made it clear that there are no advanced talks with any club yet, despite many rumours from Spain saying the player is heading to the Camp Nou.
“There’s absolutely nothing to it except the pain of people saying that ‘he’s sold’, ‘that Barcelona want him’. At the right time, if something comes up that the president thinks is worthwhile, then we’ll talk. It’s worth remembering that we made the biggest investment in our history.”
That can only be a good message for Tottenham and all the other clubs who try to overcome Barcelona in this race.
Globo Esporte insists that Athletico and Vitor Roque’s agents haven’t received an official bid for the transfer yet, but two clubs from the Premier League, as well as Barcelona, ‘promised’ to make their attempts in the summer window.
Perhaps one of those could be Tottenham, although Spurs better be aware that his club want at least €42m for the sale.
