Everton defender Niels Nkounkou has admitted he will talk with his agents this summer about his future, as his loan spell at Saint Etienne comes to an end.

The defender has been speaking about his future, relayed by Foot Sur 7, with it likely he will leave Everton on a permanent basis in the coming months.

The Frenchman has spent the last few months on loan at Saint Etienne after cutting short an unsuccessful spell with Cardiff to temporarily return to his homeland.

He’s proven to be a massive success with the Ligue 2 side, managing six goals and eight assists in 19 games in the league so far.

His loan deal includes an option for the French side to sign him permanently from Everton in the summer, something they are likely to take up before potentially selling the defender on for a profit.

Nkounkou has so far remained coy about what might happen at the end of this season and has maintained that stance today, insisting it is in his agent’s hands.

“Playing in the first division of a major championship is always my ambition,” he said.

“We’ll talk about it calmly at the end of the season. We’ll talk to my agents and my family to find out how it’s going to work out, and after that I don’t have any particular goals for the future.

“I want a lot of things for my future. Stability to start with, because I’ve moved around a lot. Staying at Saint-Étienne could also be a very good solution. We mustn’t neglect this club. We’ll see what else I can get.”
