Because of his contractual situation, Adrien Rabiot’s future is going to be talked about constantly between now and the end of the season, and Newcastle United will be dragged into it.
That’s because they have been one of the most linked clubs when it comes to the France international, who came close to a move to the Premier League last summer.
That was with another United, but the fact of the matter is, Rabiot wouldn’t mind heading to England, having said so himself, and Newcastle appear interested.
It’s a transfer that makes sense on paper, since the Magpies are continuously trying to improve themselves, not afraid about splashing the cash if needs be, but if the opportunity to bring in a World Cup finalist on a free presents itself, they won’t turn their nose up at the chance.
The big question going around in Italy at the moment, however, isn’t about Newcastle, but about whether he will renew with Juventus, which is what he was asked about after their 1-1 draw against Nantes in the Europa League on Thursday.
He said, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb: “My philosophy is ‘here and now’: I’m at Juventus and I try to do well and always give 100%. The same with the France shirt. I’m not thinking about it now, I just have to do well and help the team.
“We’ll see with the club and understand if we can go on. For now, I’m only thinking about the league and helping the team go as far as possible in Europe.”
That definitely isn’t a ‘yes, I want to renew’, which could be music to Newcastle’s ears, and it’s something we will be keeping an eye on going forward.
