Even though Anthony Elanga was part of Manchester United’s first team squad for the entire season, he couldn’t have much playing time under Erik ten Hag, getting only 705 minutes on the pitch in 26 appearances.
That’s why he’s been linked to a departure from Old Trafford this summer. It’s German clubs who are said to be keen, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig’s interest being reported by the local media.
Elanga, who’s currently with the Swedish national team, today had a word with the local press. Quoted by Aftonbladet, he talked about how things have been going at Manchester United.
“It’s been hard but I can’t control it, it’s just a matter of being strong in the head and showing that I’m ready when the coach wants me to play, but right now the season is over, and it was a good season for the club.”
This week, we’ve seen RB Leipzig player Emil Forsberg suggesting he wants Elanga to join him at the Bundesliga side, and saying he’ll ask the club for his signing. Asked about that, the Manchester United player said it’s good to have the support from his national teammate.
“It is always nice to hear praise from Emil, who I know very well. Emil has won everything, he is a legend in Leipzig and a legend in Sweden. Hearing such praise from him is something that makes me laugh and smile. But right now I’m focusing on the matches with Sweden and then we’ll see what happens after.”
Elanga also talked about the many languages he speaks, saying he he wants to learn a new one, and that was a very good hint for local journalists to ask if that would be German.
“It’s up to me, you’ll see.”
