Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur allowed Joe Rodon to join Rennes on loan after he was left out of Antonio Conte’s plans this season.
The centre-back was a regular for the Ligue 1 side until he was shown a red card against FC Nantes on October 9th. Since then, he didn’t feature in the league in 2022 and was restricted to appearances in the Europa League.
This had led to claims the 25-year-old could return to Tottenham in the winter market.
The Wales international made his first club appearance post the World Cup in Rennes’ 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain last weekend.
Ouest-France interviewed Rodon and asked him whether the transition from the World Cup to club football was mentally difficult.
“Yes, we have seen that the players who participated in the World Cup returned to the club at different times. It’s difficult at the beginning because we didn’t have the whole group,” he said.
“Of course, it was new for everyone to have a mid-season World Cup. It was a fantastic experience but we are happy to come back and continue for the second half of the season.”
The Tottenham owned player was also asked whether the reports stating that Rennes are planning to send him back to Spurs in January were ‘real’.
Responding to that, Rodon explained: “I can’t control what goes on outside and what people say about me. All I can do is focus on myself. I am happy at Rennes.”
Rennes have an option to make the defender’s loan stay permanent. Rodon, however, is not clear where his future lies beyond this season.
“I’ve said it before: from the first day I arrived, the players and the staff have been great with me. So far, I’m enjoying my time here and I’m looking forward to the second half of the season. We’ll see what the future holds for us,” he stressed.
