Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastien Kehl is playing his cards close to his chest with a potential permanent move for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho in the summer.
Sky Germany cover comments from Kehl, who confirms that he fought to try and include a permanent option in the winger’s loan from Manchester United.
Sancho returned to his former club in January after a disastrous few months at Old Trafford that had seen him forced out of the squad following a falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.
A return to Dortmund had initially been seen as difficult to get done but the two clubs managed to strike an agreement that saw him join on loan until the end of the season, with it made clear that deal does not include a purchase option.
That raises the question of what will happen with Sancho in the summer, with him seemingly not in Manchester United’s plans moving forwards and the hope he can secure a permanent exit elsewhere.
There’s every possibility that could be a permanent return to Dortmund and Kehl admits he’ll look at it in the summer, should the funds be available.
“Unfortunately for both players, neither option was really realistic,” he said regarding Sancho and fellow loanee Ian Maatsen.
“If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two and a half years ago, then you know also that it might now be very, very difficult.
“We naturally advocated for an option with him – and also with Ian – but the negotiating position was not such that we could implement it and so we will accept it for now.
“But of course, we’ll see what we can do in the summer and, above all, what’s economically feasible. Unfortunately, that’s always a big topic.”
