Manchester United are back in the picture to sign Atalanta’s Ederson. Encouragement has been handed out by the Italian club, who may have little control in the summer.
As things stand, Ederson’s contract in Bergamo runs out in 2027. Atalanta have failed to tie him down further and this attracted Atletico Madrid’s attention in the January transfer window.
The Spanish side agreed personal terms but didn’t agree a fee with La Dea. Sport Witness have covered how this has handed an opportunity to Manchester United, who are expected to speak to Atalanta soon over a summer deal.
They can pay more than Atleti, which is swinging things in the Red Devils’ favour.
Now, Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has spoken about the midfielder’s future.
Atalanta will listen to offers
Percassi spoke to Tuttomercatoweb at the Telenord-Gianni Di Marzio event in Portofino yesterday. He was asked a host of questions about the club’s future, with sporting director Tony D’Amico and manager Raffaele Palladino’s situation unclear. The Italian also addressed the future of Ederson.
Providing encouragement to Manchester United, he said: “We have no official offers, only interest from other teams.”
Percassi revealed moves will be made at the end of the season.
“I think it’s unlikely that teams will make a move before the end of the season. Interest in our players is normal, but we’ll evaluate them at the right time with great serenity and calm.”
Ederson keen on deal
Calciomercato IT make it clear that Atleti have cooled off from their chase of the midfielder.
The Brazilian has now received a higher salary offer from Manchester United, who are willing to pay around €45m. This includes bonuses and the permanent transfer fee.
This seems to have convinced the 26-year-old, whose wishes are driving the transfer to Old Trafford. It is believed the player being swayed is proving key and now Atalanta can execute his sale to the English giants.
Our take: Early business makes sense
Manchester United have kept an eye on Ederson for at least two years now. That is a significant detail to consider and shows that a lot of groundwork has gone into the move.
Now is the perfect opportunity too, as Ederson is cheaper than he was back in 2025 due to his contract situation.
Manchester United need multiple midfield signings and making one early in the window would be a very good start. Ederson is mainly a number eight but is versatile enough to drop deeper in possession.
He thrives on playing quickly between the lines, which can make him a very reliable squad player at Old Trafford.
