With Moussa Dembélé thought to be on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid, where he’s expected to sign on loan for the rest of the season with the Rojiblancos having a €35m purchase option, Lyon are continuing with their pursuit of Islam Slimani.

The Leicester City striker has been linked with multiple Ligue 1 clubs in recent months, and Lyon are currently pushing ahead of the competition. On Saturday, Lyon director of football Juninho revealed talks have been held with the Algeria international, and he stated Slimani wants to make the move.

Le Progres, a newspaper local to Lyon, now reports the potential transfer is ‘well advanced’. Lyon are continuing to negotiate with Slimani and have offered him an 18-month contract.

The player is naturally looking for longer, so some kind of compromise will have to be reached in that regard. Even at that point, two other things need to happen for the transfer to be completed.

Dembélé’s transfer to Atletico must be finalised, and Leicester City must agree to let Slimani leave for nothing. Given his contract expires in June, and Brendan Rodgers isn’t counting on the player, such a scenario looks possible.
