Tottenham Hotspur winger Wilson Odobert will spend months on the sidelines after he ruptured the anterior ligament in his left knee.
Le Parisien report their information about the Tottenham player after he suffered the injury during Tuesday evening’s defeat to Newcastle United.
Odobert showed visible distress after he clashed with Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes in the first half of the 2-1 loss. Spurs’ medical staff treated him on the pitch before he walked straight down the tunnel following his substitution in the 35th minute.
Thomas Frank was hopeful after the game that the injury was “not too serious”, but Le Parisien report bad news. According to their information, the 21-year-old underwent exams on Wednesday morning and they revealed the worst. He has suffered a rupture of the anterior ligament in his left knee.
Odobert now faces an extended spell on the sidelines. He will likely require surgery, which would significantly lengthen his recovery time. The French newspaper reports that surgery would end his season.
Non-stop Tottenham injuries
That will be a major blow for the youngster, who had started to establish himself at Spurs this season. He has two goals and five assists in 33 games in all competitions so far.
Now, Odobert faces a lengthy absence that could last weeks or months. Surgery would push his recovery toward the longer end of that timeline.
His absence will add to the growing list of injuries at Tottenham. They now have 11 senior players sidelined through injury, while captain Cristian Romero is also serving a three-game ban as well.
Injuries have been a major concern for Spurs for a while. Ange Postecoglou’s time in charge was also filled with injuries to key players. The Australian had 37 injuries in total during his reign, with 22 players out at some point of their last season under him.
Frank, who has was sacked on Wednesday, suffered in a similar manner. Tottenham have suffered the third-most injuries in the Premier League this season. Now Odobert is set to add to those numbers.
