Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß has insisted that they aren’t interested in selling Michael Olise to Liverpool this summer.
BILD report comments from the 74-year-old today as rumours regarding Olise continue to swirl. The 24-year-old Bayern star is reportedly Liverpool’s number one target to replace Mohamed Salah.
Salah replacement
Liverpool and Salah confirmed that they will be parting ways this summer in an announcement this week, despite him still having a year left on his current deal.
Focus has now turned to who may replace the Egyptian at Anfield. Doing so will be no easy task give the humungous boots he will leave behind.
Reports have named Olise as the number one target as he continues to shine at Bayern. He has 16 goals and 27 assists in 39 games this season, hitting another level after 20 goals and 23 assists in 55 games last season.
Those same reports have even suggested Liverpool are willing to pay €200m to get the forward this summer. That’s despite spending €482.9m on signings last summer.
Hoeneß uninterested in €200m
That rumour was put to Hoeneß, who insisted Bayern have no interest in doing a deal.
“If that’s true, I don’t believe it is, but Liverpool have already spent €500mthis year and are having a very poor season. So, we won’t be contributing to their improved performance next year,” he said at the AI festival data: unplugged in Münster.
“We play this game for our fans. We have 430,000 members, we have millions of fans worldwide, and it doesn’t do them much good if we have €200m in the bank and then play poor football every Saturday because of it.”
BILD report that Bayern see no reason to let Olise leave, particularly from a sporting perspective.
The forward has consistently delivered top performances since joining from Crystal Palace in 2024. Thus, the Germans want to send out a clear message, Olise is not for sale.
Bayern bosses speaking out
Hoeneß has made that clear, echoing the sentiments from sporting director Max Eberl.
“We’re not giving it a second thought. Michael has a contract with us until 2029, without a release clause. We’re relaxed,” he told SportBILD
“He’s an FC Bayern player and has all the opportunities here that top players could wish for. We want to shape the future with him.”
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has also emphasized how important Olise is to the club: “No matter which club is flirting with him: Anyone who plays for FC Bayern knows what they have at FC Bayern.”
So, the message from Bayern is clear. €200m doesn’t interest them, they don’t want to sell and Olise wouldn’t want to leave anyway. Whether they ring true in the summer if Liverpool do make a bid, remains to be seen.
